I took my Grandson hiking. The trail was easy to find. We didn't see any wildlife but we did find lots of places for the 5 year old to run and jump.
There is a small stream with a bridge and he stopped and listened. He thought the sound was cool.
The camping area was closed, but the beach was open. Picnic tables are in abundance.
So sad. A really great park. So it melts down to gentrification and then closure after closure. The lack of funding cannot be a legitimate excuse for the deterioration and negligence. So please tell us now how this scam will play out. If that park is allowed to continue unchecked on it's present course sooner or later they'll close it and privatization will take place. I think that's what they're looking for. Stealing that which we all in part paid for will soon be gone. Please bring back the good things that this latest generation of miscreants have lost. Our pavilions, the Commissary by the beach. We've been scammed. Sure it's free now. But it is because they have made it not worth the cost of admission in it's presentcondition. Let's blame it on the feds. Because in the name of security they have done more damage here in the United States than the criminal element ever did to destroy this beautiful icon.
People on floatation devices harassing people fishing. Threats against each other and I really don't care if it's real or fake. It's something you didn't see before now!
I complained for sure.
My kids and I are doing the 12 broome county trails... this was our second trail off the list. It was not easy to find the start of the trail so we ended up doing part of the yellow and red trail before settling on the blue trail. We ended up doing just under 3 miles. There's lots of black berry bushes along the trail that the kids ate. The trail is mushy so strongly suggest wearing hiking boots not sneakers like us 😬😄... but tons of fun.
It's hard to imagine, but there are still places with no cell phone service. We drove a few miles away to a pull off spot with a view of the next mountain ridge over, and a cell phone tower in the distance. That was great!
It gets truly dark at night, and this is the perfect place for stargazing. The hike around the pond is gentle and worth it. The water is refreshing. Beautiful nearby towns.
Came by to hike around the park today. Great weather as we che ked out cemetery, old mill, up to the old barn and down to the dam. Very enjoyable!
We rented the cottage for an extended weekend, and it was beautiful. There were a decent amount of trails, a sizeable lake to paddle around or fish. All kinds of wildlife, you name it. The park staff were super helpful, even when we showed up a day before their campsites were open, they let us know a beautiful dispersed camping spot to spend the first night. The only downside, if you want to call it that, is that there's no cell service in the park. I liked being able to disconnect. The costs were very fair, and I would drive 6 hours there to getaway again any time.
Visited for the first time this summer! Campsites are well sized! Each loop of campsites has their own bathroom [with shower] and playground area! Swimming/beach area is large and very clean as well!! Even on a busy day with the swimming area parking lot full, it didn't seem like there were a lot of people because there's a lot of room to spread out! This is easily one of my top camping sites now!!
A date in time.
Lots of nature trails. Plenty of places for picnics. They have a row boat/canoe/kayak launch area.
Place seems very dated. Like it is stuck on the late 60's or early 70's. Lack of upkeep on one of the buildings with holes in the shingles on the side of the building. Parking area was paved but 2nd and 3rd lots are grass mixed with pavement. They do have tenting and RV campers.
The day was overcast but still had several people swimming.
